Afridi ruled out of second Test with knee injury

Pakistan pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi has been ruled of the second and final Test against hosts Sri Lanka in Galle following a knee injury, the PCB said in a release on Thursday (July 21). Afridi sustained an injury to his right knee on Day 4 of the Test series opener in Galle, that Pakistan won by four wickets. "He will stay with the Test side in Sri Lanka, where his initial rehabilitation and management will continue under the supervision of the team's medical staff," the PCB statement read. Afridi stood out in the first innings of the opening Test, claiming 4 for 58 in 14.1 overs to play a vital hand in bowling out the hosts for 222. However, his participation in Sri Lanka's second innings, that lasted 100 overs, was only for seven overs. Afridi, who is currently one away from 100 Test wickets club, also left the field appearing in discomfort on the fourth day. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka have injury concerns of their own ahead of the decider with offspinner Maheesh Theekshana getting ruled out of the second Test following an injury to his bowling hand.
