The Chennai Super Kings are planning to hire Mohit Sharma as the team's new bowling coach. The 38-year-old, who previously played for CSK for four seasons, will succeed Eric Simmons, who previously held that position under Stephen Fleming. Mohit will officially sign a contract to join Zaheer Khan's team of support staff as the first person hired as head coach. "Zaheer is finishing up the support staff right now. He seems to have chosen Mohit for the role of bowling coach. Before announcing his retirement from all forms of the game in December of last year, Mohit, who also played eight T20Is for India, participated in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as recently as the 2025 season. He made 48 appearances for CSK in the Indian Premier League, and he also made 10 appearances in two seasons of the now-defunct Champions League T20. The name of the CSK and Zaheer batting coach for the 2027 season has not yet been decided upon. Michael Hussey, who was also understood to be in the running for the head coach role, has served in that capacity until this season. It is learnt that there are three or four names in conversation with a final decision still to be taken. CSK parted ways with their long-term head coach Stephen Fleming earlier this year after failing to make the playoffs in each of the last three seasons and winning the last of their five championships in 2023.
