With Sri Lanka continuing to reel under economic and political crisis, the country's cricket Board is expected to propose to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) to shift the Asia Cup out of the island. The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) will convey the request to ACC president Jay Shah during their meeting on the sidelines of the IPL final. A few members of the SLC, including its president Shammi Silva, are already in Ahmedabad for the Sunday's (May 29) big match. The Asia Cup is scheduled from August 27 to September 11. Contacted by Cricbuzz, multiple members of the ACC have said a final decision has not yet been taken but did not rule out the possibility. "I will have to check, the final decision has not yet been taken," a non-SLC member of the ACC told Cricbuzz. An SLC member remained non-committal. Shah had previously told this website that he has been in touch with the SLC officials. Clarity is expected in the next few days as the BCCI secretary has currently been busy with the arrangements for the IPL final. The general impression is that the tournament cannot be staged in Lanka in the current scenario. United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bangladesh are the potential alternatives with the former tipped to be the frontrunner. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and UAE will be the participating countries. SLC, however, has no plans to cancel or move its bilateral engagements against Australia and Pakistan. The Australian team will be landing in the island in a few days' time. Meanwhile, a section of the Sri Lankan media has reported that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has agreed to play a couple of bilateral Twenty20 Internationals prior to the Asia Cup to help the cash-strapped board tide over its financial crunch. SLC secretary Mohan de Silva said nothing has been finalised. This website spoke to the stakeholders of the SLC and the BCCI and they have said the two bilateral games are a possibility.
