MSL 2021 called off due to Covid-19

The 2021 version of the Mzansi Super League has been canceled, Cricket South Africa affirmed on Monday (December 20). The third season, which was initially planned to be held in November last year was deferred because of the pandemic and should be held in February 2022. The choice to cancel the competition has been taken because of the current Covid-19 circumstance in South Africa that has brought about movement limitations being forced by numerous nations. 'Stricter travel prospects, the Bio-Secure Environment dissatisfactions, dread of the new variation, and the feeble Rand/US Dollar conversion scale' were the reasons referred to by the CSA to cancel the competition. The board is currently intending to arrange a CSA T20 challenge in that period instead of MSL, highlighting eight Division 1 groups. "The choice to drop the 2021 version of the MSL is intended to permit CSA and its essential accomplices to patch up and survey the competition present Covid-19 on recovering its market and business position," Pholetsi Moseki, Acting Chief Executive Officer at Cricket South Africa, said. "For its motivations, the MSL opening will again be supplanted by a homegrown CSA T20 Challenge, highlighting the 8 (eight) Division 1 groups and this competition will happen in February 2022."
