Nissanka ruled out of ODI tri-series in Pakistan, Lahiru Udara named replacement

Sri Lanka Cricket announced on Thursday (October 15) that Pathum Nissanka will not be included in Sri Lanka's ODI squad for the tri-nation series in Pakistan because he has not received a return-to-play medical clearance. In Nissanka's absence, SLC have named Lahiru Udara as the replacement player in the ODI squad. Udara has represented Sri Lanka in five Test matches and seven T20I matches, but he has not yet made his ODI debut. He featured in the three T20Is against England in September and also the three T20Is against Pakistan earlier this month. Udara scored 91 in the first T20I against Pakistan, his first fifty-plus score in the format. In July 2026, he also scored 188 in a Test against the West Indies. Nissanka was named in the squad announced on October 4, with the condition that he would travel with the team only if declared medically fit. The right-handed opening batter had sustained a hamstring injury on the tour of England and was also ruled out of the three-match T20I series against Pakistan. Nissanka is also a member of the 15-man squad for Pakistan's two-match Test series, which begins on November 9. However, his availability is dependent on fitness once more. The final of the tri-nation ODI series, which also features England, is scheduled for October 31. It will begin on October 18.
