For the KFC BBL|16 season, Perth Scorchers have signed a second English international player, signing opening batter Zak Crawley. The 28-year-old will wear the orange for the second time at BBL|16, having appeared in six games for the Scorchers in BBL|13. During his first season with the Club, Crawley put up 155 runs at 31.00, including an unbeaten 65 in a nine-wicket victory over Hobart at Optus Stadium. The right-hander also pitched for the Hobart Hurricanes in eight BBL|12 games, registering 185 runs at a rate of 26.42. Crawley recently teamed up with fellow Perth Scorchers’ top order batter Mitch Marsh during Sunrisers Leeds’ recent campaign in The Hundred, where the side made the Eliminator Final. He finished the tournament with 169 runs at 24.14, including an unbeaten 56 in his side’s win over eventual champions Manchester Super Giants. The Kent product has played 64 Test matches across a seven-year span, scoring 3586 runs at 31.18 including five centuries. His 189 in the fourth Test of the 2023 Ashes Series remains one of the most spectacular Ashes innings and still serves Perth Scorchers Members and fans a reminder of his tremendous ball-striking ability at the crease. After Calvin Harrison's announcement shortly after the BBL contract signing embargo lifted, Crawley becomes the second English player to sign with the Scorchers for BBL|16. “It's exciting to add Zak into the mix for the upcoming season alongside the likes of Mitch Marsh, Cooper Connolly, and Aaron Hardie.
