Rutherford, Powell reprimanded for breaching ICC Code of conduct
An official reprimand has been issued to Rovman Powell and Sherfane Rutherford for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. In addition, they each received one demerit point for their actions during the second Twenty20 International against India in Ranchi.
According to the International Cricket Council (ICC), Powell was found guilty of violating "abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match" under Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, while Rutherford was found guilty of violating "showing dissent at an Umpire's decision during an International Match."
After being run out by Mayank Yadav in the sixth over of the West Indies innings, Powell's offense was to hit the ball away with his bat. Rutherford was furious at the umpire in the 13th over for not giving a wide.
On-field umpires Jayaraman Madanagopal and Rohan Pandit, third umpire Nitin Menon, and fourth umpire Virender Sharma, all brought charges against the pair. Both Powell and Rutherford acknowledged their wrongdoing and accepted the penalties.
