Blow for the Tigers: Mushfiqur Rahim Ruled Out of 1st Test as Bangladesh Choose to Bat
The Decision: Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and elected to bat first against the West Indies in the opening match of their two-Test World Test Championship series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.
Team News & Late Injury Blows
Mushfiqur Ruled Out: Veteran 106-Test batter Mushfiqur Rahim was forced to miss out after sustaining a hand injury during training in the nets on Tuesday. Bangladesh Changes: Towhid Hridoy replaced Mushfiqur in the XI, while Shoriful Islam also came into the side in place of Ebadot Hossain. Bangladesh's lineup features a spin-heavy attack alongside pacers Hasan Mahmud and Shoriful.
The major news from the toss was that Mushfiqur Rahim, the 106-Test veteran, has been forced to miss out because of a hand injury. He picked up the injury in the nets during training on Tuesday. The last time Mushfiqur had missed a Test was also against West Indies, and also because of an injury, in the Caribbean in late 2024.
Bishop's Maiden Test Cap: The West Indies left out veteran paceman Kemar Roach, handing 26-year-old left-arm spinner Joshua Bishop his Test debut. He joins fellow spinners Jomel Warrican and captain Roston Chase in the side.
Windies Composition: Fast bowlers Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph anchor the pace department alongside allrounder Justin Greaves, with Amir Jangoo taking over wicketkeeping duties with Shai Hope skipping the tour.
