India and West Indies Fined Match Fees for Slow Over-Rates in Third ODI
Both India and the West Indies have been fined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for slow over-rates during the third One Day International (ODI) in New Chandigarh. India were penalized 20% of their match fee for falling four overs short of their target rate, while West Indies were fined 10% for being two overs short after accounting for time allowances.
The Penalties & Official Ruling Sanctions Applied: Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, teams are fined 5% of their match fee for every over they fail to bowl in the allotted time.
India: Ruled 4 overs short right arrow$ 20% fine of match fee. West Indies: Ruled 2 overs short right arrow$ 10% fine of match fee.
Match Referees & Umpires: The penalties were imposed by Prakash Bhatt of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees. The charges were officially leveled by on-field umpires Jayaraman Madanagopal and Sam Nogajski, third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, and fourth umpire Virender Sharma.
Plea: Both team captains pled guilty to the offenses and accepted the proposed sanctions, avoiding the need for a formal hearing.
Due to India being four overs behind schedule late in the second innings, they suffered an immediate in-match fielding restriction penalty during the final four overs. India were required to keep an additional fielder inside the 30-yard circle (allowing only four fielders outside instead of five), which proved costly in defending their total during the tight finish.
Despite losing the overall series 2–1, West Indies clinched a historic 5-wicket win in the final ODI, successfully chasing down India's 351/7 in 48.2 overs behind an unbeaten 162 from captain Shai Hope.
